We chat with Gavin Bain aka Brains from Silibil-n-Brains, a couple of guys from Scotland who pretended they were a famous Californian hip-hop group. The film The Great Hip Hop Hoax was a huge hit at the Edinburgh International Film Festival earlier this year and it will be out in cinemas next week, so we sat down with Brains and he gave his side of the story.

Culture Laser Goes to the Movies

In this edition of the Laser I discuss short film with three programmers from the Edinburgh International Film Festival – experimental programmer Kim Knowles, shorts programmer Lydia Beilby and animation shorts programmer Iain Gardner. We also talk with Farah Kassem, director of the short ‘My Father Looks Like Adbel Nasser’ and have the great honour of including the title track Despite The Dark from Hailey Beavis’s new EP.

STTS flyerOn Saturday 29 June I will be performing live at the Traverse Theatre alongside a gramophone and an 8mm film in Screen Bandita‘s Shining Through the Shadows, a mesmerising and surreal piece of expanded cinema that unfolds themes of memory, place and experience.

The piece is part of Black Box Live, and will be followed by Paris-based Collectif Nominoe and Finnish artist Sami van Ingen. Join us for a very special evening of analogue adventures!
